Good alternative for using in diaper making, needs experienced sewer

I purchased the 1mm film to use as a middle layer in diapers. I would definitely recommend some sewing knowledge before using this product. Here is what I did and how it worked out for me:

I traced my pattern onto the film with an indelible marker, then cut just inside the line. Washable pens, pencils, etc. are not suitable for use on this product, they smear too easily. I carefully pinned my fabric layers together inside the seam to avoid putting unnecessary holes in the film. I also put the snaps on the outer fabric without going through the film. Sewing without a walking foot would be next to impossible, the film and fabric layered together is VERY slippery. With the walking foot, it was simple enough to sew.

The diaper is now finished and looks great! It will take some getting use to using the film as it is time consuming compared to PUL fabric. The diaper is also a bit 'crinkly' sounding, but once its on a baby with the soakers in place, that shouldn't be a problem.

For reference, I made a AI2, with snap in soaker. It would be easy to make an AIO or hybrid with this film, but a pocket diaper might not be as suitable as the film would be exposed to repeated inserting and removing of absorbent layers. It would be too easy to tear the film on say someone's ring or other object in the wash.

I will update with a review on the diaper in use once it has been on the baby for a period of time.

Sandwiching Helps

Very hard to sew because it slips streches and slides around. After some doing i did manage to get my diaper put together. I found that Sanwiching between fabric made it much easier.

Give it a try! You will not regret.

I bought pul film several years ago to make cloth diapers.
By the time I couldn't use at all! The film slipped and was always stucked on the sew machine. So I put it away on the big "one day I"l use box".
Now Imake mama cloth pads and didn't have any PUL at home a few days ago.
So I decided to give the film another chance. Sandwiched between 2 flannel layers and pined only the corners. Used as regular pul.
Worked so so so wel !! The CP was thinner than usual and holds as much as regular PUL ones do.
I even think this is easyer to use than PUL.

very effective, yet difficult to use, so here is some tricks!

I use this for diaper making and mama cloth, its was extremely difficult at first to use. after cutting out the pattern pieces, I would either sandwich the film between other fabric, then iron to help keep it from slipping. if you need to pin, I suggest using binder clips instead to keep from having to many holes. It also helps if you place a piece of parchment paper (even notebook paper works) between the film and the presser foot. it keeps it from sticking, and the paper is easily torn off without damaging stitches. using an iron to help seal seams works great as well. I had an issue with fluids leaking through the holes, even when using a ballpoint needle, so I just used a regular universal needle and an iron, set to steam on medium high, and the holes sealed up.
