What's New at Wazoodle
What's New
Whether you’re looking for a supplier for your sewing business or trying to find the best materials to make clothes for yourself and your family, you may be finding yourself overwhelmed by the many, but not wholly appealing, options available to you. As leaders in the textile industry, we share your frustration. The industry is bloated with chemical-laden, cheaply-made textiles that will end up in landfills in just a few years, emitting dangerous gases as they decompose and bleeding their toxins into our soil, but not until they’ve left their lasting mark on those who wear them. We’d like to offer you an alternative—a cleaner, greener textile manufacturer based here in the United States that cares about the health of its customers and the world. We’d like to illustrate to you why AKAS Tex and Wazoodle are different.
Thousands of chemicals are used in the process of creating waterproof, wrinkle-resistant, anti-pill, and stain-resistant textiles. Add in the chemical methods used for dyeing fabrics to their brightest potential, and you have a toxic cocktail of chemicals proven to harm the health of the user. These chemicals have long affected textile workers in foreign factories, and the resulting history of respiratory issues, rashes, and even death has been well documented. But new research has shown that, while working in a factory and having daily contact with these toxic chemicals can of course rapidly deteriorate health, the danger these chemicals pose has a much farther reach than we previously thought. BPA, a chemical used to make plastics including polyester fabric, is classified as an Endocrine Disrupting Chemical because it interferes with the natural binding of hormones to their receptors and can even mimic hormones. Along with PFAS and phthalates, BPA has been linked to chronic illness, infertility, and behavioral issues in children. PFAS have even been connected to cancer, fetal abnormalities, and reduced immune system operation. Most people aren’t even aware of the danger their clothing presents to them and their children.
Which is why we offer chemical-free textiles. We exclude BPA, PFAS, and phthalates from our manufacturing process entirely. We refuse to allow heavy metals and other dangerous chemicals to touch our textiles, and we strive to educate others on the danger of these chemicals to our bodies and our environment. Some of these toxins, once the source is removed and exposure is no longer a threat, can naturally make their way out of our bodies. Others, like heavy metals, can build up in our bodies and affect us for decades. PFAS, once introduced to our bloodstream, are forever. It may be too late to completely purge the textile-originated chemicals in our adult bodies, but a reduction of the source chemicals can go a long way in improving our health and safety. And it’s not too late to protect our children.
Wazoodle is a proudly USA-owned and operated family business, and we love being able to give back to our community. The benefits of supporting American businesses are many and far-reaching. When you support American businesses, the money you spend goes back into your community, creating jobs for Americans and stimulating the economy. Furthermore, the US has stricter rules regarding the treatment of workers than most other highly manufacturing countries. Workers are paid fairly, and if they aren’t, they have organizations that will fight for them to receive better treatment. The USA also highly encourages Fair Trade Agreements, further protecting the rights of the worker and securing intellectual property.
We offer high-quality fabrics made here in the USA and are transparent about our directives and material sources. When you buy from Wazoodle, you can rest assured that you are encouraging growth in your community and that no corners were cut to bring you an ethically sourced product made by hands that were fairly compensated.
Protecting the environment is one of our most important missions at Wazoodle. The chemicals that poison our bodies, found in a majority of the mass-produced textiles on the market, have poisoned our Earth as well. Once the chemicals have done their damage in the factories, they are generally dumped into the ground or into bodies of water, where they pollute the rivers and oceans and endanger aquatic life. Furthermore, these chemicals rely on mass amounts of fossil fuels to even be created, the process of which releases greenhouse gas emissions. Wasteful and dangerous from start to finish, these chemicals and heavy metals are not worth the risk they pose. Which is why at Wazoodle, we not only constantly innovate our processes to avoid these harmful practices, we also educate others on their ecological dangers.
And if supporting local businesses wasn’t already attractive enough, we have one more factor to sweeten the deal. Supporting USA businesses is more eco-friendly! Having products shipped domestically reduces carbon emissions, since the product doesn’t have to travel as far to reach the customer, and completely eliminates the pollution and emissions that would have been produced by cargo ships. And when products are shipped domestically, they don’t require as much packaging as when they’re shipped internationally, which leads to a reduction in plastic waste. When materials are USA-made and every step of the process is carefully observed to assure the highest quality and the most ethically manufactured product, you can actually see the difference in the finished merchandise; USA-made products tend to be more durable and last longer, thereby reducing textile waste in landfills.
You get ethically and eco-consciously produced fabrics free from harmful chemicals and heavy metals. You get high-quality textiles designed to protect your health and the health of our planet. You get peace of mind regarding your role in our industry and its effects on the world. Trying to find fabrics that won’t harm your body or the environment can be a harrowing experience. We know. It’s why we do what we do.
