Why ProSoft ECO-PUL is the safer and more environmentally friendly fabric

ProSoft ECO-PUL is our best-selling waterproof fabric that is soft, breathable, and flexible. This multi-application fabric is versatile—making it an excellent choice for many products. It’s tested to withstand 300+ washes, manufactured with no harmful chemicals or finishes and 100% eco-friendly. It is available in over 40 colors and over 100 prints; antimicrobial, stretch-fit, heavy-duty, 65" wide, 72" wide, and recycled fiber variations are also available.

ProSoft ECO-PUL is certified free of lead, phthalates, BPA and many other harmful chemicals; it's 100% CPSIA certified, and flammability tested. The number one choice in cloth diapers, diaper bags, shower curtains, incontinence products, and many more!

What makes ProSoft ECO-PUL environmentally friendly?

There are two ways that manufacturers make waterproof fabrics. One way is harmful on the environment, and one way is kind to our planet.

For any waterproof fabric, you need fabric and a film. The film is plastic-like and called TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane). This film is what makes the fabric waterproof. You can learn more about TPU on this blog.

The old way of attaching the fabric and the film is called solvent lamination. This method involves using chemicals to bond fabric and film together. The con of this method is that harmful chemicals are needed to create a strong bond. These chemicals aren’t gentle on the skin or the environment. Many overseas businesses still use solvent lamination to create waterproof fabrics.

Our sister company and manufacturer AKAS Tex developed a way to thermally laminate our fabrics to make them waterproof without the use of harmful chemicals. This transformed the fabric world by creating waterproof fabrics that do not involve toxic chemical solvents or toxins. Instead, our fabrics are thermally bonded using heat and pressure. Our eco-friendly approach ensures that our fabrics are safe against the skin and gentle on our planet. We take fabrics and TPU and use a mix of heat & cold to create our ProSoft ECO-PUL fabrics.

When we don’t use chemicals to bond our fabrics, we are preventing our workers from inhaling harmful chemicals, avoiding introducing chemicals & VOC's into the atmosphere, and avoiding solid waste by-products.

How does ProSoft ECO-PUL compare to other fabrics?

Besides the fact that our products are safer for our planet, they are also better in other ways. Our thermally bonded fabrics are softer and more pliable than fabrics bonded through solvent lamination.

Our ProSoft ECO-PUL fabrics come in a variety of thicknesses—this is common for many waterproof fabrics, but the difference is that when ProSoft ECO-PUL is thicker, it’s the film that is thicker; it’s not the adhesive. Meanwhile, there are countless manufacturers overseas that will increase the thickness of their material by adding more adhesive. This results in a fabric that includes more toxins and is more harmful to the environment when disposed of, and it also doesn’t make the fabric more waterproof in the same ways that a thicker fabric does.
