Every Zorb product has incredible holding power, a single layer holds up to 5 times the moisture of the best absorbing knits so leaking and exterior wicking can be greatly reduced. In the next few weeks we'll show you some basic design tips that will save materials and production costs while improving the overall performance of your products.
Best used for soaker pads and heavier absorbent areas that are expected to shrink and thicken. For large, full body applications you might be better to consider Zorb II Dimple.can be thick.
Zorb II diamond pattern is designed to "full" or thicken as it's washed. Fulling is a process whereby a fabric increases thickness by shrinking in length and width, think of what happens to a wool sweater when it's dried hot. Zorb II Diamond will be fulled considerably by drying hot, up to 50% increase in thickness. What is gained in thickness is at a cost in of up to 20% length and width. If you design to take advantage of this fulling, be sure to accommodate it in your cut sizes.
If you make items to sell, it's important to highlight care requirements - OR - to design for the worst case customer treatment.
Serging Zorb II requires well tuned machines and moderate serging experience. Zorb II Diamond is a thick fabric made with thick filling guage yarns, if you find the material is not getting serged cleanly (material pulling into knives) your serger needs tobe tuned. Sewing with dull or poorly setup knives will stretch and break yarns to the left of the needles which will appear as pinholes after a few washes. If you have a concern with your equipment, you might want to consider Zorb II Dimple pattern, it is a lot easier to serge.
Do not prewash before sewing. You are best to calculate shrink and add this as an allowance in your pattern. Zorb II thickens after washing making tougher to sew.
ZORB can be washed using home or industrial equipment and additives. It absorbency is not effected by hard water or with natural detergent deposits diaper-stripping to regain absorbency is virtually eliminated.
Wash: cold to hot OK
Dry: tumble medium
This is the care standard for this item. It will stand up to very hot wash and dry however you can expect additional shrinkage, up to 20 % and fulling, up to 50% of the fabric when dried hot.
As of Feb 1 2012 we reduced the size of the diamond pattern on Zorb II. Yardage shipped after Feb 1st will be in the new size, precut soaker blanks will change over as stock turns over, we expect most to be in the new pattern by March. We did this because we found many of our clients wanted a hotter care standard without the shrink, to do this we had to make changes to control shrinkage.
Zorb II was originally released in 2 patterns, Dimples and Diamonds. We designed the Dimple pattern for use in diaper making and the Diamond pattern for other absorbent and padding applications.
We found over time that some diaper makers were choosing the diamond pattern because they found shrinking it increased absorbency. For some this is great and they designed the shrunken size into their articles. For others this posed a problem as their articles shrunk more than that anticipated.
